It is not sensible to a friend who is depressed, that "fit" before. If you are depressed, here are some ways to get out of it.

Here is how:
- Walking or running. Exercise helps your body natural antidepressant chemicals.
- Spend time with people to something you once enjoyed doing.
- Call a friend or relative who has contact with lost.
- Ask. Your family doctor for medication and possible referral to a therapist
- See if you have expectations that are used in the depression - as you have to think things "should".
- Make sure you have enough quality sleep - but get up after 8 hours or more.
- Eat a balanced and have moderation in the consumption of food.
- Talk with someone or contact Befrienders.org if you have suicidal thoughts.
- Select one or two small tasks done with ease and do.
- Make sure your surroundings are well lit - consider a sad reflection when you are depressed in winter.
- Consider complementary / alternative treatments - but talk to your MD
- Avoid alcohol and drugs on the street - can worsen the depression.
- Take a bath or shower, shave and put on clean clothing.
- Gardening or housework. This can bring a sense of accomplishment.
- Volunteers. Helping others can increase self-esteem.
- Working remember with a doctor or therapist that they are partners. Not expect you do all the work.
- Surfing the web - in moderation - can help, but be careful not to spend too many hours at the computer.
- Face to face support groups and therapy groups can also be very useful.
